About the “Prehistoric Sites” series
The series began in 2016 with the Ġgantija Temples on Gozo. They were followed by Ħaġar Qim (2017), Mnajdra (2018), Ta' Ħaġrat (2019), Skorba (2020) and Tarxien (2021); the series concluded in 2022 with the Ħal-Saflieni Hypogeum, an underground burial complex.
Mintage figures fell over the course of the series, from just over 400,000 to fewer than 200,000 pieces. The later coins are therefore considerably harder to find than the first issues. Mnajdra also features on Malta's 1-, 2- and 5-cent circulation coins.
