2026 €2 commemorative coin marking the 50th anniversary of the Irish band U2

The coin is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Irish band U2 in 1976. The national side of the coin depicts the band’s name, U2, together with an image of all four band members (from left to right): Adam Clayton, Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr. It also refers to the band’s 50th anniversary (1976–2026) and the name of the issuing member state, Éire. Founded in 1976, after Larry Mullen Jr. put a sign reading ‘Drummer seeks musicians’ on the noticeboard of Mount Temple Comprehensive in Dublin, U2 is now regarded as one of the world’s best live acts and has toured around the world countless times; released 15 studio albums; sold over 175 million albums; and won numerous awards, including 22 Grammys and Amnesty International’s Ambassador of Conscience Award.
